Man shoots himself during Great Bunny Hunt
A 26 year old Southland man is being flown to Dunedin hospital after sustaining a self inflicted gunshot wound on a farm in the Queensbury area, near State Highway 6, Luggate at about 10:00am this morning.
The male, who was shooting alone on foot at the time of the incident, was participating in the annual Alexandra Lions ‘Great Bunny Hunt’.
Cromwell Police are still investigating the cause of the incident, however it is believed the male lost his footing while shooting and has fallen, sustaining injuries to his left hand and forehead.
He has self administered first aid and then walked out to the area where he and his party were camping to seek medical assistance.
This years Great Bunny Hunt is the 23rd anniversary of the event, which to date has been incident free.
